30.2 Administration of Intellectual Property Policy

The University of Iowa Intellectual Property Policy, comprising its Inventions Policy and its Copyright Policy, shall be administered under the oversight of the Vice President for Research. The Vice President shall appoint an Intellectual Property Committee. The role of the Intellectual Property Committee shall be to advise the Vice President for Research regarding intellectual property matters including, but not limited to, the resolution of disputes arising from the application of the policy; in addition, the committee shall advise the Vice President of any need for altering the policy or its administrative implementation. In appointing members of the Intellectual Property Committee, the Vice President shall seek to include members from all constituencies affected by the policy. The Vice President will seek advice prior to appointing committee members from such established groups as the Faculty Senate, the Research Council, the Staff Council, Undergraduate Student Government, and Graduate and Professional Student Government.

Any amendment to V-30.3b(7) and V-30.4b(2)(d) of this policy (distribution of proceeds and income) shall apply to inventions and copyright works disclosed on or after the date of the amendment’s approval. Distribution of proceeds and income for inventions and copyrightable works disclosed to the University of Iowa Research Foundation prior to such an amendment shall continue to follow the distribution in effect on the date the invention or copyrightable work was disclosed.
